Red Bull make more early
Max Verstappen has taken a new gearbox ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix qualifying session, adding to the growing list of swapped parts at the Red Bull Formula 1 team.
Following a host of changes for Sergio Perez's Red Bull yesterday - including gearbox and power unit components - the reigning champion will take new gearbox parts at only the second grand prix weekend.
Prior to qualifying, the Technical Delegate's report noted that Verstappen's car had undergone a swap of gearbox case and cassette (grouped as 'GBX C & C'), along with new gearbox internals (driveline, gear change components and auxiliary components, grouped as 'GBX DL').
In a season, drivers are permitted to use up to four 'GBX C&C' and four 'GBX DL' in a season, with Verstappen and Perez now using the second of each category.
Red Bull remain without any penalty in Jeddah, as they have not yet exceeded any allowances.
Both Red Bull drivers have commented about gear shifting of their cars across the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix, but the exact reason for their decision to change the gearboxes is not known.
